Le Petit Poucet (aka Tom Thumb) is free software to display and edit GPS routes and tracks in a 3D scene. Le Petit Poucet is targeted at explorers, discoverers and trekkers of this world: road and mountain bikers, skiers and snowboarders, mountaineers, gliders, scuba divers, geo-cachers. Le Petit Poucet will provide all the necessary tools to prepare outings and analyze logs, to exchange or present tracks and routes:

We want Le Petit Poucet to be easy to use, high quality software that provides state of the art 3D rendering and simple access to networked data like maps, digital elevation models (DEM), tracks, waypoints.
Le Petit Poucet is released under the GNU General Public License. The point is to reuse as much as possible existing open source software. We want to create a development community around Le Petit Poucet to contribute not only to the software development but also to the development of content. Everybody is welcome to contribute.

Development is stopped
10 September 2011, byDevelopment of Le Petit Poucet has stopped quite a while now. Many reasons may explain it: lack of time, progress too slow, fierce gratis (but not open) competition of Google Earth.... Anyway, Le Petit Poucet is licenced GPL, meaning that: you may use it as long as you wish you may compile it on any new, updated platform you may continue its development. Elevation correction on GPS data
19 September 2008, byGPS data (waypoints, tracks, routes) are not always available with relevant elevation. Elevation is wrong or absent. As way of consequence 3D rendering is either disapointing or totally wrecked. Le Petit Poucet is now correcting elevation based on Digital Elevation Models (DEM), mainly using SRTM from NASA. Since release 0.1, we have added a huge amount of improvements on both front and back ends of the application: Improvement of 3D rendering of tracks and waypoints: elevation is now automatically corrected to pop GPS data above 3D terrain.
